@jdandbritney Travel is about experiencing people places and things together. We’ve been to a bunch of incredible places but doing it together is the whole point. Today we visited Skidaway State Park and the river walk of Savannah. Our hike was about a mile long. We found crabs, had sword fights with palm branches we found on the ground, talked about the defensive barriers dug during the civil war to defend the area, and the kids climbed some epic trees hanging out over the river. Downtown we enjoyed a walk down the beautiful stone roads along the river. We also loved watching the ferries, cargo ships, and tug boats moving down the river, ate cookies, and danced to the street musicians.... Savannah’s southern charm, and incredible architecture, swept us in. We have been to Savannah for a day trip many years ago when Gunner, Kinsey, and Schofield were little. JD and I have memories of riding the hop-on/hop-off trolley together, when I asked them if they recall that trip, only Gunner had. The point of traveling isn’t that each of them will remember every trip, but JD and I will, and every new day builds our family’s connection. This week we have a short amount of time to visit quite a few places.... tomorrow we are planning on Charleston, if you have been... tell us where to go!! If not, stay tuned for us to show you around. #savannah #motherhood #travelgram #travelblogger #travelreels #momlife #georgia #travelgeorgia ♬ Celestial - Ed Sheeran

@jdandbritney While we were thinking about building the bus we realized a space dedicated to the master bedroom would be a waste for our lifestyle. JD and I tend to be early to rise, and our goals was to make everything as functional as possible without sacrificing anything. (Plus if we do feel lazy it helps to get us going.) When designing the bus we knew we didn’t need a master bedroom to lounge around in, but the kids sure love to hangout in theirs. The two U-shaped bunks were originally planned to be built into private spaces similar to tour buses, but the kids prefer them open for now. When they were little bedtime was easily set for the same time for everyone. As the've gotten older Gunner and Kinsey have Paperwhite Kindles with the unlimited plan allowing them the opportunity to stay up and read later than their siblings. We also rotate through the top 4 oldest for staying up late with Mom and Dad "past bedtime." It's kids pick if we play a board game, watch a movie, or work on a puzzle together. With our unconventional lifestyle, weeks straight of hiking National Parks, new museums & cities, and our larger crew thankfully falling asleep isn’t really a problem we have. Occasionally JD has late calls for work (monetary consulting) and the living room couch space left open allows us different bedtimes. Similarly the open kitchen area provides room for starting coffee in the morning, or the occasional late night pregnancy craving. One last thing… I really appreciate having the bathroom space separating our “master” from the bunkhouse. It gives more of a privacy space to sleeping even in this smaller square footage. Once you have seen how we make this work, could you live without a dedicated master bedroom? #rvlife #rv #bedtime #family #homesweethome #buslife #skoolie #vanlife #tinyhouse #minimalist #minimalism #housetour #bustour #skoolienation ♬ original sound - AmericanFamilyRoadTrip
@jdandbritney It seems interesting to me how we have convinced ourselves that it’s normal for people to go through a time in their life that must hate their parents. What's really happening is that children are beginning to form an identity outside that if the parents. Regretfully, our culture does more to poison children against their parents. Media turns parents in the bumbling idiots and promotes dishonesty because parents "just don't understand." First step, disconnect from the subversive world of media and cultivate a healthy, loving relationship with your kids. Second, I think we need to start expecting more from our children and that ultimately falls on us as parents to equip them to do what we expect of them. Alexander the Great was 18 when he assumed the throne and began conquering countries. George Washington became a surveyor at age 17 and began speculating on large sums of land by 20. I’m not expecting my kids to conquer lands or seriously pursue business ventures in their teens, but they can definitely learn to be a productive member of the family team. This all starts by building a solid foundation NOW. In my opinion, this starts with the parents having genuine character, being honest with their kids and admitting their faults when wrong, and pursuing your child's heart. Then through communication, healthy expectations, mutual respect, and loving guidance, we can help them grow into the responsibility and roles that God calls them to. We want a different type of life, and that requires us to live differently than the world around us. It also requires us as parents to make real changes in our families to reflect that. The more we travel the more we meet people who have wonderful relationships with their teens and young adults and we realize it's because they take responsibility for the family culture. Just flipping the narrative. Family is a blessing at all ages and stages. Just letting you know our future projection. You can make intentional parenting decisions too. Which direction is your family going? #biblicalworldview #morals #preteen #family #character #familyvalues #christianfamily #intentionalparenting#encouragingparents #christianfamilies ♬ original sound - AmericanFamilyRoadTrip
